Particular care was taken to obtain an accurate picture of traditional social structure and of the more import communal rites during the agricultural year and the members' life cycle. Among the latter, the ritual introduction to womanhood occupies up to the present time a privileged place in Krobo community life. The relatively long stay in the area made it possible not only to learn the language and to observe most of the customary performances, but also to collect cross-checked first-hand information. It was the author's primary objective to scientifically document the people's appreciation of their inherited language and culture by abundantly recording and quoting their proverbs, their ancient songs and prayers and thus to contribute to their preservation. .
