As regards shipping, the Table represents the number and actual tonnage owned by the residents of each District irrespective of where they may have been built, whether in foreign Or Canadian ship yards, and irrespective of the Official Registers, whether the same be registered in Canada or in foreign Offices. As regards the immovable property, viz: Lands and the buildings thereon, the same may be situated anywhere within Canada and not elsewhere, the owners being residents Of the Districts where enumerated and entered. A little explanation may be necessary in respect of that part of Table XXII relating to the acreage and state of Lands occupied - As a rule these lands are situated Within the sub-districts and districts named. The exceptions are, when residents of cities and towns occupy and work lands situated outside the limits thereof and upon which no person resides. It also occasionally happens in villages and old settled townships that a part of the holding extends beyond the limits Of the village or of the township. Tables XXIII-XXIV, it is only necessary to say that the animals and products raised and produced on the lands occupied by residents of cities and towns Outside the limits thereof are entered as described in Table XXII.
