Web Design Virtual Classroom combines a conventional book tutorial with Real Player video lessons on the bundled CD. This is a beginner's introduction to Web design, covering everything from initial planning to uploading your completed site. The book does not assume the use of any particular authoring tool, although the examples use Dreamweaver, FrontPage, or GoLive. Many books dive straight into page creation, but this one begins with the planning stage. There is an explanation of different kinds of Web site, such as personal, informational, or e-commerce site, and a discussion of what is involved in choosing and registering a domain name. Interesting chapters cover developing a site flowchart and different ways to gather Web content. Other chapters explain how to choose design software, and concepts of good composition in laying out pages. Text, graphics, and colours get a chapter each, followed by material on tables, frames, multimedia and hyperlinks. An appendix offers a brief introduction to HTML. This book's title rightly refers to design rather than authoring. There is not enough detail to make this a strong tutorial in hands-on page layout. On the other hand, it does a good basic job of presenting the bigger picture, dealing with the planning and concepts behind successful web sites. The book itself is attractively presented, using generously sized text and illustrations. There are video lessons for 8 of the 14 chapters, which present similar material in a different format and with the added benefit of animated screenshots. --Tim Anderson, Taschenbuch, Leidimas: Pap/Cdr, Etiketė: Mcgraw-Hill Publ.Comp.
