"Archival Appraisal" by Frank Boles, with the assistance of Julia Marks Young, seeks to increase the understanding of how archivists select records by developing a better understanding of the methodology underlies this selection process. Based on a study of the appraisal practices of 15 archival institutions, and supplemented by an examination of the development of selection policies in archives, "Archives Appraisal" defines and assesses criteria used in selection policies.
