Excerpt from Leberecht Hühnchen Heinrich seidel was born on the 25th of June, 1842, in the village of Perlin, in Mecklenburg. He was the son of a clergyman, an author of some repute. Up to his ninth year, when his father was called as court-chaplain to Schwerin, the boy lived in Perlin, where, mid fields and woods, he spent a most happy youth. In Schwerin he at tended the Gymnasium. However, not having any ineli nation for a classical course of study, but excelling in mathematics and the natural sciences, Seidel left the Gym nasiam and prepared himself for a technical profession. In the fall of 1860 he entered the Polytechnic School in Hanover, and in 1866 the Berlin Institute of Technol ogy, where he graduated with high honors. He then ac cepted a position in W6hler´s machine shops in Berlin, and later became constructing engineer for the Berlin Potsdam - Magdeburg Railroad. In this capacity be dis tinguished himself by the construction of the immense iron roof of the Anhalt Station in Berlin, the largest on the continent. In May, 1878, Seidel retired from his proies sion and has since devoted his time entirely to literature. He is still living in Berlin.
