Even this short list will suffice to show that the language has little affinity with that of the Miris and Dafas, the neigh bours of the Akas on the east. Some day, perhaps, its con nection with Tibetan - A. Connection which the physical aspect and dress of the Akas renders probable - may be worked out. If any one will undertake the task, I can recommend J apho, who lives near Balipara, as an instructor who talks Assamese fairly well, and is willing to bear with an ignorant foreigners enquiries, - for a consideration. My only regret is that other occupations made me but a poor pupil, as this Vocabulary too plainly shows. Brief as my list of words is, it probably contains many errors. Nothing is more difficult than to hear the words of a language aright unless the enquirer has learned enough to speak connected sentences, and it is too likely that many of these words have not been transliterated correctly. They were, however, all repeated to J apho and if errors there are, upon his head may they be visited.
