In the fine arts the 1990s are associated with conceptual sharpness and formal aesthetic reduction. But also with freedom of formats and expansion of curatorial action. During this time, the busy couple Axel and Barbara Haubrok began to build up a considerable collection, the focus of which is on international trends in conceptual art. The collectors are particularly interested in sculptures and objects in museal size, but also in stringent positions of photography and film, as well as abstract painting. Minimalist, often black and white or monochrome, but also charming and cheerful are the works in their collection, which now comprises over 1,000 works. The most characteristic of these are the works behind which there is ample humor even when they appear strictly and formally factual. The Haubrok couple were invited by the Neues Museum to work out a very personal presentation for the large exhibition hall. The exhibition format, which changes during the term, also stands for the conceptual thinking of the collectors. Highlights from the collection are shown in two stages in very different forms of presentation. The parenthesis is that some of the selected artist positions are present in both parts and thus appear in very different contexts. With works by: Richard Artschwager, Anna und Bernhard Johannes Blume, Cosima von Bonin, Carol Bove, Martin Boyce, Christoph Büchel, Tom Burr, Matt Calderwood, Henry Codax, Martin Creed, Jimmie Durham, Ólafur Elíasson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Cerith Wyn Evans, Hans Peter Feldmann, Claire Fontaine, Günther Förg, Mario Garcia-Torres, Isa Genzken, Douglas Gordon, Wade Guyton, GuytonWalker, Rodney Graham, Lone Haugaard Madsen, Jeppe Hein, Judith Hopf, Georg Herold, Callum Innes, Emily Jacir, On Kawara, Stefan Kern, Imi Knoebel, Oliver Laric, David Lieske, Scott Lyall, Tobias Madison, Park McArthur, Rodney McMillian, Ari Benjamin Meyers, Jonathan Monk, Simon Mullan, Philippe Parreno, Joyce Pensato, Manfred Pernice, Peter Piller, Charlotte Posenenske, Václav Pozárek, Stephen Prina, Florian Pumhösl, Daragh Reeves, Tobias Rehberger, Michael Riedel, Michael Riedel und Dennis Loesch, Jeroen de Rijke und Willem de Rooij, Klaus Rinke, Willem de Rooij, Karin Sander, Markus Schinwald, Barbara Schmidt Heins, Gabriele Schmidt Heins, Gregor Schneider, Santiago Sierra, Andreas Slominski, Simon Starling, Wolfgang Tillmans, Jan Timme, Haegue Yang, Kelley Walker, James Welling, Franz West, Franz West und Mathis Esterházy, Ian Wilson, Christopher Wool, David Zink Yi, Heimo Zobernig.
