After the introduction, which describes the methods that Gaskell adopted and the conclusions that he draws from the investigation, there are two main parts: (1) Specimens, Proposals and Other Ephemera, and (2) Books. Each entry contains a quasi-facsimile transcription of the title-page, and gives details of formula contents, cancels, errors, plates, paper, type, etc. In an Appendix there is a detailed list of the books printed at the Oxford University Press and by Robert Martin in Baskerville's type before 1775. A very careful bibliography, of interest to historians of printing and typography as well as collectors of Baskerville and bibliographers. The 12 plates mostly illustrate unique copies of Baskerville's ephemera. This revised edition includes a new ten page section of additions and corrections and a full-size facsimile folding sheet of Baskerville's last type-specimen, contained in a pocket so that it can be removed for comparison with a book. Very Good in used and price-clipped dustwrapper, which is sunned around the spine and a little marked.
