Dierama, is a genus of flowering plants in the iris family, Iridaceae - the common names include hairbells, Angel's Fishing Rod, fairybells, and wandflowers, the genus is native to Africa (from Wiki). The present book covers 44 species, four of which are described for the first time. Thirty-six species are illustrated by Auriol Batten in exquisite, full-page water-colour paintings, each showing part of a flowering stem life-size, together with enlarged details of the parts of the flower and a pencil sketch of the plant in its natural habitat. Photographs of a dried specimen illustrate the eight species for which neither living material nor color slides were available (from the jacket flap).
