Seine Arbeits- und Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Peptische Ulkuserkrankung (Pathophysiologie und Therapie), Erkrankungen des biliÃren Trakts und des Pankreas, diagnostische und therapeutische Endoskopie. Er war 1993/1994 Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft fÃr Innere Medizin.
