Liljegren.6 In Hermothena 7 we find the opinion that this twig-rune, correspond ing with the Ogham Craobh (or virgular Ogham),8 composed of an upright stem and side branches, sug gested the stepped, ladder or primitive Ogham and hence the perfect popular Ogham. This theory has by no means been generally accepted. Goransson (bantil, p. 232) figures an ancient monument on which are a few words written in these Ogham Runes with the twigs (rfinneftrecfen), the remainder being in the common Runes.
