Neuware - In 2014 World Health Organization (WHO) reported that during the next 25 years the number of cancer cases would increase by about 70% world-wide. In order to deal with this dramatically increase, WHO suggested to focus on prevention and early detection of human tumor by health screening. We have worked on this topic for more than 30 years resulting in assays for prevention and early detection of human cancer useful in health screening of cancer, for prognoses of relapse and survival of cancer patients and monitoring the effect of cancer treatment. The prevention assay is based on markers related to oxidative stress (8-oxo-dG) and the early detection of human tumors on biomarkers associated with tumor proliferation rate (thymidine kinase 1, TK1). In combination with functional foods it is possible to reduce the risk of develop mutations leading to cancer. People with elevated TK1 levels in their blood show a 3-5 times higher risk to develop malignancy within 6 years. Prevention strategy would reduce the number of cancer patients, and early detection and early treatment would increase the possibility, not only to prolong patient's life, but also to cure them. 344 pp. Englisch.
