ISBN: 9783540068716 bzw. 3540068716, in Deutsch, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, neu, E-Book.

Medicine, The English edition of this book has been prepared from the third Gem1an edition published in December 1974. The first two German editions, published in 1971 and 1972, respectively, were very well received in Germany. We hope that this English version will enjoy a similar popularity by students wishing to understand the essential concepts relevant to the fascinating field of neurophysiology. The evolution of this book has been unique. The first edition was based on a series of lectures presented for many years to first-year physiology students at the Universities of Heidelberg and Mannheim. These lectures were converted into a series of 38 programmed texts, and after extensive testing, published as a programmed textbook of neurophysiology (N europhysiologie programmiert, Springer-Verlag Heidelberg, 1971). Thereafter the present text was written and thoroughly brought up to date. Throughout this period all of the authors were members of the Department of Physiology in Heidel berg allowing for maximum cooperation at all stages of this endeavor. With regard to the English edition, I wish to express my apprecia tion to Mr. Derek Jordan and Mrs. Inge Jordan for translating this book, and to my colleagues Dr. Mark Rowe and Dr. Dean O. Smith for their valuable comments and suggestions on the English manuscript. I express my grateful thanks to the publishers, both in Heidelberg and New York, for their unfailing courtesy and for their extraordinary efficiency. eBook.

Fundamentals of Neurophysiology
~EN NW EB DL
ISBN: 9783662011546 bzw. 3662011549, vermutlich in Englisch, Springer Nature, neu, E-Book, elektronischer Download.

Although just two years have passed since the first English edition of this book, advances in neurophysiology have dictated considerable revision of most of the chapters. The chapters on synaptic transmis sion, motor systems, and the autonomie nervous system, for example, have been revised, extended, and in some parts entirely rewritten. In response to a frequently expressed wish, a chapter on the in tegrative functions of the nervous system has been added. Here the use of the term "integrative functions" expresses our lack of a better general term covering such diverse activities and states of the nervous system as waking, sleeping, dreaming, consciousness, speech, leam ing, and memory. This chapter also includes an introduction to the physiology of the cerebral cortex and the characteristics of the elec troencephalogram. Another new section is a chapter on the control-systems aspects of central nervous activity, a ressection of the fact that many processes, particularly those involving motor activity and the autonomie nervous system, can best be described and analyzed in terms of control theory. The previous Chapter 7, Sensory Systems, has been largely included in another volume, "Fundamentals of Sensory Physiology." Finally-again at the suggestion of readers-a bibliography has been added to guide the student further into the topics of the indi vidual chapters. Most of the references are re cent; they offer access to the current originalliterature. eBook.
