I employed FORTRAN language using finite difference numerical techniques. The results shows that the tip-sample separation lies in a range of (3.5- 7.0)Å where the STM is operational. I observed that existing high resolution devices have a tip-sample separation of 4.0 Å. This is consistent with our findings. Modern technology is based on quantum physics. Time dependent Schrödinger equation plays a very important role and extremely active area of current research in modern physics. Indeed, an accurate understanding of this phenomena allows one to describe the behaviour of quantum particles which can be applied to physical systems such as the scanning tunneling microscope (STM). To describe the behaviour of quantum particles, various Scientists like Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Ernest Rutherford, Niels Bohr and Louis de Broglie came out with various suggestions and assumptions which gave a brief description of the dynamic behaviour and nature of these particles. Inspite of the fact that their experiments gave idea to the matter wave, they could not explain it better due to the absence of a wave equation. It was an Austrian Physicist called Erwin Schrödinger who then constructed a wave equation for the de Broglie's matter waves which helped in describing the behaviour of the quantum particles. In 1925, Erwin Schrödinger, then Professor of Physics at Zurich University, gave a presentation describing de Broglie's matter wave. He was then challenged by one physicist, Peter Debye that his theory was childish because to deal properly with waves, one has to have a "wave equation".
