Yet these persons are, appar ently many of them, men of piety and most holy life; and all declare with one voice the most thorough allegiance to, and love of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But apply all that we have been saying here, and is it not manifest that from some reason or other, they are in the condition of the prodigal son. They want to be re leased from all restraints, and when they have effected their desire, can we doubt where they will be led; far from God, far from Christ, with whose avowed or masked de niers they have already associated themselves; far from every thing which is good and holy, into the barren and cold region of heartless scepticism.
