EINKEHR UND ÖFFNUNG ZUR WELT Ugo Rondinone (geb. 1964 in Brunnen, Schweiz; lebt und arbeitet in New York) ist ein Konzept- und Installationskünstler, dessen OEuvre abstrakte Gemälde, Fotografien und Skulpturen umfasst. Inspiration, Regeneration und Trost findet er seit jeher in der Natur: "Hier betritt man einen Raum, wo das Heilige und das Profane, das Mystische und das Weltliche gegeneinander schwingen." Rondinones Werke oszillieren dabei zwischen den Extremen Innen und Aussen, wobei Gestein als wiederkehrendes Material und Symbol häufig präsent ist. Die Skulpturen der Serie nuns + monks entstanden aus Kalksteinmodellen, die dreidimensional gescannt und in Bronze gegossen wurden. Als Spiegelung des inneren Selbst mit der Aussenwelt steht bröckelnder Kalk der Solidität der Bronze entgegen - der natürliche, mehrtausendjährige Ursprung der Steine im Kontrast zur Hier-und-jetzt-Gegenwart der polychromen Abgüsse. Ugo Rondinone studierte an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien. Seine Arbeiten wurden unter anderem im Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai, im Schweizer Nationalmuseum, Zürich, im MoMA/PS1, New York und im Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin gezeigt.
