[Excerpt from Introduction] On finding a fungus growing in the path, one is aptto give it a scuff of the foot and think, "There's a toad-stool - I wonder if it's poisonous." However, the mycologist would be interested in determining the genus and species, and if he were a mycophagist, he would be concerned with its edibility. Mycology is the study of fungi. It has a fascination all its own for the amateur botanist who enjoys the out-of-doors and wants to learn about these primitive plants. Aside from the gastronomic appeal, fungi presentbeautiful and unique material for designers, artists, and photographers.
