The Inhabitants can prove the Nomination of Three Curates successively nominated by them within 70 years last past; which they have enjoyed without interruption from the Dean. In answer to the Questions contained in the Case, are the following observations. That as Inhabitants they are not capable in Law to take any Estate, so as to give them the right of Nomination: but Usage may be considered Evidence that at some former period, Trustees might have been appointed for that purpose. A Bill was filed and ancient Witnesses (who were so old and infirm as not to be able to travel to London) examined; their names were William Kempson, Elizabeth Withington, Widow; Joan Mopeley, Widow; John Wesiwood, William Stokes, and Mary Riley, Widow. Tha Chapter now dropt their claim, and the contest remained with the Inhabitants, and Dr. Booth, the-Dean, who was served with a Subpoena in Chancery, and not being able to obtain a suspension which he sought, he dropt his claim, and consented to License, which was done January 27th, 1730. THE ANCIENT CHAPEL. The Ancient Chapel of Bilston was a very small one, much like those now existing in small country places; the foundation was discovered at the late enlarging of the Chapel, in 1826; the dimensions were about the same as a good sized Parlour; which was enlarged at the latter part of Mr. Amess life time, or in the time of his Successor and Nephew, and Pewed according to the Plan annexed, and a Gallery erected at the West End; and which Pews were appropriated to the then existing Houses, and Officers for the time being, or sold as follows: --An appropriation of the several Seats and Pews in the Chapel of Bilston, in the Parish of Wolverhampton, in the County of Stafford, had and ma. . .
