Die Pohnshallig ist seit einigen Jahren mit Nordstrand landfest und von nur einer Familie bewohnt. Bei schöner Witterung sieht man an den Ufern dieser Hallig fast immer mehrere Seehunde, welche jedoch bei Annäherung des Dampfschi?'es schnell ihr Element aufsuchen. Bis 1825 hatte sie eine eigene Kirche; seitdem ist sie aber zu Oden hüll auf Nordstrand eingepfarrt. Drei bekannte Schriftsteller waren einst Prediger auf der Hallig: die beiden friesischen Chronisten H eimreich, Vater und Sohn, welche Ende des 17. Und An fang des 18. Jahrhunderts lebten, und der durch seinen Roman "die Hallig weithin bekannte Biernatzky. Die Hamburger Hallig, gross 79 ha mit nur einem Haus, ist von allen Halligen am meisten geschützt und seit 1857 durch eine Lah nung mit dem Festlande verbunden. Wenn man Nordstand ein wenig hinter sich hat, gewahrt man im Westen die fast 36 qkm grosse Insel Ps 1 lw or m. Sie wird von 2000 Einwohnern bewohnt und ist wie Nordstrand von grosser Fruchtbarkeit.
