This is also a book that could be used to show people who aren't Christians what true Christianity is as opposed to someone who claims to be a Christian, when in all reality they probably aren't. This book could be a big help to many people who are searching for something real in life that they can truly believe in as well as people who are new Christians or people who may be struggling in their walk with God. This book is about how I planned my life, how God planned my life, and the things he has taught me along the way. I pray that you learn and grow in the wisdom of an awesome God as you read this book. After all, it's easier to learn from the experiences of others than to have to experience those things all by yourself. The following is the foreword for my book written by a lifelong friend of mine, Jim Holdahl. Most people are just ordinary folks like Todd and I. Growing up in rural South Dakota, we could not have been more average if we had tried. If there was an award for the "most likely to be lost in obscurity," we would have tied. But something terrific happened to us and our lives are now more fulfilling than anyone could have imagined. Picture a row of hammers at the hardware store. One does not differ from another much at all. In fact, their differences are very minute until you compare them to the craftsmen that will eventually use them. Like a hammer destined for use by both skilled and unskilled craftsmen, the true differences between people are revealed in the world views that guide them. I'd rather be an average hammer in the hands of a Jewish carpenter than a state-of-the-art reactive neodymium carbon fiber hammer being wielded by a madman. Taking sole control of our lives is comparable to a hammer attempting to build a house by itself. The result is a mess suitable only for burning. Many of us have battled the decision of WHO is controlling our lives. Christ can take the mess from our feeble attempt at constructing our lives and rebuild it properly, but only if He is asked and only if everything is given over to Him. It is often difficult to understand how another day in the life of an average person could possibly fit into God's great plan. We may feel like a hammer as we pound away at our daily tasks, not realizing that God is working in our lives in ways we cannot comprehend. Like a hammer in the carpenter's hands, we are unaware of what God does while we are not looking, or seeing. In his autobiography, "Just As I Am," the renowned evangelist, Billy Graham, recounts his search for God's purpose. Days turned into weeks and then into years, and God was using Mr. Graham even though he was unaware. He will use you too. Being part of a generation that holds education in such high regard, it baffles me that there are only a few who guard against spiritual ignorance. This generation is not teaching the concepts of right and wrong. What was black and white is now relegated to shades of gray in the spirit of accommodation. Values have become subjective. Absolutes are dying. We feel an emptiness created by spiritual bankruptcy but don't recognize its origin; we unconsciously fill the void with unhealthy and destructive behavior. Some people are aware enough to look for answers and that is where this book is important. Our society spends too much time, money and energy dealing with the effects of unsuccessful spiritual searches, but we blatantly refuse the answer which has already been offered and paid in full. The thirst for hope is tremendous, yet so many people are never able to quench it. Too many of God's children become browbeaten and brainwashed - and reject hope when it is offered. Hope is here, right now. The battle has been won and the victory is ours to claim. Nothing can separate us from a victorious life in Christ except our own rejection of it. God's purpose may not always be clear, but it will become so in time. The most important thing is our daily walk with Christ. The rest will be done when we aren't looking. This is a book full of truths, helpful at any age or stage in our walks with Christ. Read them, guard them, share them, delight in them. They are yours by the grace of God.
