I am satisfied myself that this township system is going to bring better teachers because the town board of education will make an effort to hold them in the town better than the trustees did. Another fact you must recognize is this, that you can not bring about a complete adjustment in so far as teaching is concerned in a short space of time. The next step is to prepare people definitely for that kind of work. We have to have a system to make it worth while to enter. Another factor in making an efficient school from the work of the teacher relates to the materials she has to work with. Just recently we have been getting some information from teachers in Livingston county; and one of the principal reasons why the teachers prefer to work in the village school rather than In the district school is expressed thus: "In the village school we can have materials to work with; in the district schools we find this practically impossible."
